Dust Collection and Fume Control
Dry Dust Collectors
"Dry Type" Dust
Collectors are designed utilizing envelope bags, tubular bags or
cartridge filter media.
Cartridge Collectors: Cartridge units use efficient pleated, non-woven media in a structurally stable perforated metal cartridge. This design enables you to put more filter area into a much smaller space, therefore, offering a highly efficient filtration system at lower air-to-media ratios, substantially easier maintenance and operation, and decreased collector headroom. The cartridge filtration system reduces filter change time up to 75 percent compared to other units employing cloth filter tubular bags. Systems can be outfitted with an adjustable timer which controls the cycle of pulse-jet cleaning air. Solenoid operated diaphragm valves open in sequence to introduce high pressure air into venturies above cartridges, while the other cartridges in the unit continue their filtering function. By sequencing the pulse-jet cleaning process, high dust loading can be handled without shutting the collector down. Typically, cartridge units require up to 25 percent less headroom than bag houses.
Tubular Bag Collectors: Bag houses offer an economical way to handle your dust collection problems efficiently for low volume applications. Units are available with hoppers and support legs, or as bin vent filters with an open bottom. Dust contaminated air enters the hopper and is deflected downward by a baffle. This downward airflow and gravity cause heavier particles to fall directly into the collection hopper. Filter bag pulse cleaning is activated by a solenoid valve controlled by a solid state timer. Optimum cleaning is assured. The timer controls the length of time between cleaning cycles and the pulse duration. Filter bags are cleaned one row at a time. While less expensive than cartridge systems, they will generally take up more room and require considerably more time for filter changing and maintenance.
Envelope Bag Collectors: Envelope type fabric collectors are designed for dust control problems involving small air volumes. Smaller units are available with pull-out drawers. Motors and fans are located on the clean air side of the units which eliminate fan loading and motor damage.
Wet Dust Collectors
Wet Dust Collectors are
self-contained, water recirculating units for removing
practically all kinds of industrial and foundry dusts from the
exhaust system air. Dirt, lint, grindings, magnesium dust, and
other contaminants that do not float in water, are all thoroughly
washed out and are trapped as wet sludge. In many instances, the
clean air may be returned back into the plant for substantial
savings in heat. Installation is simple, as the units are shipped
completely assembled, or in easily assembled sections as shipping
conditions may require. They are ready for hookup to water,
drain, ducts and electrical power. The compact design requires
minimum floor space.
How They Work: In operation, the Wet Collectors employ a unique principle for washing, scrubbing and fogging the contaminant out of the air and collecting it as a wet sludge. Contaminated air enters the collector and follows a downward path to strike the water surface violently. Fan suction continuously draws a large volume of water and air up into the cone where it impinges against a disc baffle plate and sprays off onto the wall of the cone. This forms a dense, horizontal water curtain across the air passage between the baffle plate and the cone. When the water strikes the walls of the cone, it cascades onto the sloping surface with a turbulence that scrubs the ascending air stream. Furthermore, as the drain-back water drops into the tank, it produces another heavy curtain through which the air must pass. Thus, the air is scrubbed and washed in the 5 separate stages. Before it is drawn through the exhaust blower and discharged, the air is finally cleansed by rapid changes of direction and impingement against the moisture separator plates. As a result, only clean air, free of water droplets, passes through the blower. Water is continuously activated by the suction of the air blower only. There are no nozzles, piping or water pumps to clean, repair or replace. The consumption of water is negligible...only normal evaporation, which is replenished automatically. Collected sludge is easily removed from the sloping tank side through large access doors. The units can also be equipped with automatic sludge removal conveyors.
Pollution Control Benches
Pollution Control Benches
are down draft work benches designed for controlling dusty jobs
that involve grinding, polishing, sanding, wire brush cleaning
and much more. These units are available with a 220 sq. ft.
cartridge for dry collection, a wet collection design utilizing a
stainless steel scrubbing section, or a hopper bottom which would
connect to a central collector. The units are totally self
contained, eliminating costly installation fees. No special
electrical or duct work is required. Pollution Control Benches
are portable and cost effective. If larger areas are required,
simply install additional units. The down draft velocity at the
work surface is 500-700 feet per minute, with an even flow over
the entire surface of the bench. Exhaust silencers are included
to eliminate noise and permit room/air discharge, eliminating
costly air temperature loss. Six standard sizes are available
with combinations of single and three phase blowers. All units
include fluorescent lighting. Clean up problem areas while you
protect the operators' environment.
Fume Collectors
Source Collection Systems
(Fume Collectors) capture smoke, welding fumes and fine dust at
the source, keeping your people and workplace cleaner, safer,
healthier and more productive. Air cleaners are virtually
maintenance free, and they provide consistently high air quality,
thanks to the superior filtration performance (99+% efficiency)
of the flame retardant filter cartridges. The systems available
can be portable or stationary, continuous duty or for
intermittent use. Source collectors facilitate quick collection
of fine particles and fumes at the source... before they reach
the worker's breathing zone. Source collectors are available with
or without exhaust fans.
Cyclone Collectors
Cyclone Collectors provide
constant high performance at low horsepower requirements. The fan
is located on the clean air side of the unit. Dry, heavy
particles such as grit, chips, and other heavy particles are
separated and collected before they can reach the fan, reducing
the threat of loading or breakage, and avoiding unnecessary
repairs and costly down-time. A top-mounted motor and blower are
rotatable for easy relocation of the outlet duct. Cones may be
rotated on their base for inlet location. The long cone design
and high inlet velocity puts these cyclones in the "high
efficiency" class. Cyclones have removed up to 99% of fine
steel grinding and 99.9% of sawdust, by weight. Fine particles
not separated by the cyclone unit are trapped by after-filters,
which are optional on all models. Cyclones are recommended in
polishing operations where it has been found that typical filter
media becomes bridged because of the grease based rouges being
used with polishing wheels.
Cat Vac Industrial Vacuum Systems
Every Cat Vac vacuum is built for years of hard use and abuse. Outside, you'll find steel, optional rust-proof stainless steel or heavy gauge polyethylene canisters. Inside, HEPA filters-optional or standard equipment on most models-cut down resistance to help your Cat Vac run cooler, quieter and longer. For high performance, long life and dependability, nothing beats a Cat Vac.
The exclusive "Reverse Pulse" filter cleaning is standard on Alley Cat, Lynx, Lion, Tom Cat, Panther and Cheetah models. During normal use, dust accumulates on the filter, reducing suction and overheating the motor. The reverse pulse system blasts clean air from the inside out, sending dust into the collection tank. It's simple to use. Just cover the inlet, flip a lever, and a blast of outside air rushes back through the filter, sending dislodged dust particles into the collection tank. In less than 15 seconds, the filter is back to like-new condition so your vac runs cooler and longer.
Oversize HEPA Filters are standard on Alley Cat, Lynx, Lion, Tom Cat, Panther, Cheetah, and Cougar, optional on Bob Cat. The HEPA filter traps 99.97 percent of particles above 0.3 microns. With up to three times more surface area than other HEPA filters, they reduce filter "blinding" and keep you vac operating at a peak efficiency.
Typical applications include: general cleanup, paint rooms, asbestos, carbon black, hazardous materials, sand & other heavy materials, powders, clean rooms, hospitals, and wherever there is a need to recover, capture or clean up.
